BetAmerica is a US-headquartered and licensed racebook that offers real money horse racing betting, greyhound betting and fantasy sports. It is best known for its horse racing product and has a long history as a safe place to bet online. If you live in the United States and want to stay on the right side of the law, BetAmerica.com is just the answer. However, I do urge you to read this full BetAmerica review to ensure you know what to expect before you join.
BetAmerica is a licensed, legal and US-based horse and greyhound racing site. They also host fantasy sports contests, although BetAmerica's focus remains on racing.
- USA legal and licensed
- Bet on horses, greyhounds and fantasy sports
- Covers 200+ racetracks around the world
- Fantasy sports offering is limited
- Does not accept customers from all states
A license from the North Dakota Racing Commission gives BetAmerica the legal authority to provide real money wagers for customers based in the USA. Even better, all wagers taken online are comingled with wagers taken in-person at local racetracks around the world. All winnings are therefore paid at full track odds. Furthermore, BetAmerica offers live racing video courteous of streaming technology free for all users.
One more thing worth noting is BetAmerica is owned by the same company that operates Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky – home of the Kentucky Derby. Churchill Downs Inc., acquired BetAmerica.com in April of 2017 and is now the parent company of both BetAmerica and TwinSpires.
BetAmerica Racebook Bonus and Promotions
BetAmerica offers a juicy sign-up bonus for all new customers. All you have to do is sign up for an account and make a deposit. They will double your first deposit for up to $100 extra. For example, a $100 deposit will get you an extra $100 for a total bankroll of $200. The bonus money is added to your pending bonus account and released to your real money account as you place real money wagers.
The bonus cash is “cleared” at a rate of 10% the value of every bet placed at BetAmerica. For example, placing a $10 bet will release $1 of your bonus cash. You have exactly one month to clear the entire bonus amount.
Promo Code: None needed.
BetAmerica also offers a rebate of 3% on any bet you place on the bonus tracks. There are 140+ bonus racetracks at BetAmerica that offer the 3% rebate, so there are plenty of races to bet on with a chance to get some cash back. The rebate will be deposited to your account balance in cash and you can do whatever you want with the money, including withdrawing it if you wish.
New promotions are introduced each week according to a promotions calendar posted on the BetAmerica website. These promos change all the time, but generally consist of short-term offers such as 10% win bonuses on select wagers, a chance to win free things if you interact with BetAmerica’s Facebook account and so on. It’s nice to have a variety of long term promos such as the wager rebates along with short-term promos that constantly offer something fresh.
The BetAmerica.com Experience Reviewed
Now that we’ve covered the bonuses and promotions, let’s get to the actual betting experience. I’ve been a member of BetAmerica along with several other horse racing sites and have a pretty good sense of how they all compare to one another.
Overall, BetAmerica operates on a simple and straightforward premise. Logging in to your account brings up a list of upcoming horse races in the middle, with an option to select from various tracks along the left side of the page. If a track has races scheduled, you can choose any race to see the horses that will run and their betting odds.
BetAmerica’s wagering interface is simpler than most. It is not the most beautiful interface in the world, but it is very easy to use. A dropdown list at the top of the betting area allows you to select between various types of wagers such as win, place, show, exactas and so on. Next to that is a dropdown box to select the size of your wager. BetAmerica itself imposes no maximum on wagers because all wagers taken online are pooled with the wagers accepted at the track. Thus, the maximum bet varies by track.
The comingling of funds is important to note. What this means for users is that any time you place a bet at the BetAmerica website, that money goes directly to the same betting pool that people who are physically present at the track contribute to with their own wagers. The end result is that every wager placed online is paid at full track odds.
Every type of bet accepted at the actual track is also available online. If someone at the track can place a certain type of bet in person, you can place the same wager from home. Track coverage at BetAmerica includes more than 200 tracks across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Most horse racing sites offer live video feeds of the day’s races, but only BetAmerica.com allows you to watch even if you have never made a real money deposit. Other sites require you to either have money in your account or to have placed a bet within the last 24 hours. BetAmerica imposes no such restrictions; the live race feeds are open to ALL members.
There is a distinct lack of options when it comes to online greyhound betting. BetAmerica is one of a very small number of regulated betting sites that accept wagers on greyhounds. Most others only offer wagers on horses.
The greyhound experience is basically the same as the horse racing experience. You just pick your track, pick your greyhound and select the type of wager you would like to place. This is definitely the site to visit if you have ever felt like giving greyhound betting a try but do not live near a track.
The fantasy sports section at BetAmerica is an interesting diversion, but I can’t recommend it if your primary love is fantasy sports. If that’s the case, you would be better off at FanDuel. However, the fantasy sports area at BetAmerica is just right if you primarily bet on horses but sometimes dabble in daily fantasy.
Currently, BetAmerica’s fantasy sports offering provides small contests for the MLB, NFL and NBA. Most contest entry fees are in the $0 to $10 range with prizes that range from $10 to $100. There’s not a whole lot of action here, but it’s enough for very casual fantasy players. BetAmerica does host a few fantasy sports promos each season.
During the last MLB season, for example, BetAmerica hosted a promotion that would give $1,000,000 to anyone who picked a lineup in which all 9 players scored a home run. The odds of that are astronomically low of course, but it was completely free so it’s hard to complain too much.
Both the quality and availability of the customer support at BetAmerica are commendable. My experiences with the support people have always been positive and I was happy to get quick, on-target answers to the two questions I’ve asked them in the past.
If you need to talk to someone, you can get in touch via live chat, e-mail and phone. E-mail is open 24 hours a day although there will be delays during non-business hours. Instant chat and phone are both available from 9 AM to 12 AM EST 364 days a week. They also have a fairly extensive FAQ area with the answers to more than 250 common questions.
One of the nice things about doing business with betting websites that are actually legal in the United States is the ease of depositing and withdrawing. Unlike those quasi-legal offshore betting sites, BetAmerica operates in the open and has no problem accepting payments or processing payouts to winners.
The most popular deposit methods at BetAmerica include the following:
|Deposit Method||Available for Withdrawals?||Fees||Processing Time|
|Electronic Bank Transfer||Yes||Free||Instant|
|Credit and Debit Cards (Visa/MasterCard)||No||Some fees *may* apply||Instant|
|PayNearMe||No||$3.99 charged by PayNearMe||Instant|
|Wire Transfer||Yes||Your bank will apply a fee||Same or next day|
|Check||Yes||Free||Standard mail delay|
Federal law permits online horse racing betting, but some states have laws on the books that prohibit the activity. BetAmerica accepts customers from all states except the following:
|Nebraska||Nevada||New Jersey||North Carolina|
|Puerto Rico||South Carolina||Texas||US Virgin Islands|
