Intertops Review

If you’ve read through any of our other reviews here, you already know we have an affinity for established betting sites. I’m always happy to mention how long a site has been online because it speaks well of a brand if it can keep going strong for 20+ years. Well, Intertops.eu tops them all in longevity as the first website ever to accept a sports wager over the internet.

Intertops has a history of “firsts” in the gaming industry. The company was founded in London in 1983 as a licensed bookmaker and then moved to Austria in 1992. This made Intertops the first bookmaker to set up shop in one country and accept wagers from another. They went online in 1996 to become the first true online bookmaker. Then in 2001, they became the first mobile-friendly sportsbook. They made history again in 2003 by becoming the first all-in-one betting site, allowing customers to bet on sports, play poker and play casino games with a single account.

Over its 30+ years in business, Intertops has operated with integrity. This is a betting site that takes care of its players from beginning to end. At Intertops, you don’t have to deal with slow payments or predatory fine print. What you see is what you get.

These days, Intertops accepts new customers from most of the world. They left the US market in 2012 and I can’t even begin to tell you how upset players from the US were. Intertops returned to the USA in 2015 and once again made our USA readers a happy bunch. Whether you live in the USA or beyond, Intertops comes highly recommended.

Now that I’ve introduced the company, let’s get to the actual Intertops review. Yes, I do have a favorable opinion of this betting site but I’ll set aside all personal biases and give you an honest review of what it’s like to bet at Intertops. As always, my goal is to help you make a decision based on facts and not on emotion. Let’s get to it.

Sports Betting Review

The sportsbook at Intertops covers about 18 sports with a focus on all the major sports such as soccer, American football, baseball, basketball, golf, rugby and cricket. Smaller, niche sports don’t get much attention here, but the sports it does cover are covered in depth. Select any sport from the menu and you’ll be taken to a long list of upcoming matches at both the highest professional level as well as smaller matchups between regional teams.

For example, a visit to the basketball menu doesn’t just give you every upcoming NBA game, but also international matchups and smaller matches between teams like the Indiana Fever and New York Liberty. Inside any individual sport, you’ll can narrow down the betting options to specific leagues and countries. Using basketball as an example once again, you can filter the options down to the NBA, NCAA, Germany, Greece, Italy and Spain.

As far as total betting options goes, the variety isn’t the greatest. Most wagers are of the basic money line, point spread, total and future variety. The betting odds can be pretty hit or miss as well.

There are occasionally times when Intertops has the best odds on a sporting event, but I frequently write previews of upcoming sporting events and am constantly comparing the odds between Intertops and other major betting sites. Over that time, I have found that Intertops is rarely THE best when it comes to the odds on any specific event.

The majority of the time, BetOnline and Bovada offer better odds on events. However, Intertops does offer the best odds often enough to still make it worth keeping an account open here.

Recently, the sports betting menu at Intertops got a much-needed upgrade. They had a downright ugly betting interface for the longest time, but finally redesigned everything in 2015 for a more intuitive and responsive interface. You won’t have any problems finding the sports you want, the type of bet you seek and then seeing the exact odds and risk before you confirm your wager.

The new bookmaker interface also has an interesting feature that shows the hottest bets of the day. Just look over on the right side below your betting slip and you’ll see the five most popular wagers, options to place each bet and an option to combine them all into a parlay. You can quickly place the parlay by selecting your bet amount and it will show you how much you stand to win if your parlay is successful.

Live Betting

Intertops hosts around 40 live events every day across a wide variety of sports. In all, you have more than a thousand live wagers open each day. A quick look at the in-play calendar shows when upcoming matches are scheduled. For a little perspective, I took a look at the upcoming calendar 9 days into the month and saw 238 scheduled soccer games alone for the rest of the month.

Interestingly, the live betting options at Intertops are even more diverse than the standard betting options. In addition to live coverage of major international sports, Intertops also offers live betting on events as obscure as handball and futsal. It’s rare that a site anywhere in the world takes the time and effort to cover something like handball in real time.

Welcome Bonus

Intertops offers three different bonuses for all new customers to choose from in the sportsbook. Each bonus comes with a different bonus code that you will need to mention in live chat support in order to claim the offer after you make your first deposit.

Here’s the breakdown of each bonus:

  • Option 1: 200% up to $50 using bonus code ROOKIE200
  • Option 2: 100% up to $100 using bonus code ROOKIE100
  • Option 3: 50% up to $200 using bonus code ROOKIE50

Each bonus also comes with different rollover requirements. The 200% bonus comes with an 8x rollover, the 100% bonus comes with a 6x rollover and the 50% bonus comes with a 4x rollover.

Pros:

  • Occasionally offers the best odds on events
  • Major improvements in the betting interface
  • Large lineup of in-play betting events
  • Long and positive history in sports betting
  • Minimum bet of 1.00 USD/AUD/CAD/EUR/GBP/CHF
  • Low wagering requirements on the bonus

Cons:

  • Does not often have the best odds among the major US betting sites
  • Limited selection of sports markets
  • Sportsbook win limit of $110,000 per week
  • Low match rate on the welcome bonuses

Casino

The casino at Intertops has its good and bad points. Let’s start with the positive. One thing that stands out here is a massive selection of more than 300 games between two separate casinos (the “Red Casino” and “Casino Classic.”) The Red Casino has a large variety of games powered by Real Time Gaming while Casino Classic features games by WGS Technology.

There are not many casino sites with this much variety. You can choose between a big collection of table games, slot machines, video poker and specialty games of all types. It’s impressive to see this many games at a betting site that is known first for sports, not for casino gambling.

On the negative side, the instant play software at both is just a bit dated. The instant play casino was clearly designed for smaller screens and the graphics leave much to be desired. I was unable to try the full download casino as I’m on a Mac, but I’ve heard it functions better when it’s an option.

On a more positive note, this is one of the most reputable casinos open to Americans. If you live in the USA, you probably already know how hard it is to find a decent casino that pays quickly without giving you the run-around. This more than makes up for the dated software. Intertops has a top notch reputation.

One other thing going in the casino’s favor is a handful of progressive jackpot games with major prizes on offer. At the time of this review, three different slot machine (Jackpot Piñatas, Aztec’s Millions and Megasaur) had top prizes in excess of $1,000,000.

Slot, Video Poker and Blackjack Tournaments

It’s so hard to find online casino tournaments these days. I know of a few sites that host a couple slot tournaments sporadically, but none with as much variety as what Intertops has on offer. Just head over to the “Casino Classic” at the Intertops website to download the software or load the instant play option and click on the “tournaments” tab on left side of the main casino lobby.

Intertops hosts a variety of slots tournaments, video poker tournaments and blackjack tournaments every month. Daily tournaments usually have fixed prize pools of $200 or $300 depending on the game and day of the week. You will also find maybe one or two tournaments every month with significantly larger prize pools in the range of $1500.

Freerolls: Every day, Intertops hosts at least one freeroll slot tournament with $200 up for grabs. Every day is a different game, but they are all free to enter and offer real prizes.

Paid tournaments have buyins in the range of $2 to $5, with maybe the occasional $10 tournament for a special event. If you’re on a budget, I do recommend taking a look at the casino tournaments here. These tournaments give you quite a bit of play time and a chance to win good money without risking much.

Deposit Bonus

Intertops has a simple 100% match bonus for up to $100 for all new players. All you have to do is sign up for an account, enter the coupon code SIGNUP100 and then make a deposit. They’ll make your first deposit dollar for dollar for up to $100 extra.

Clearing requirements for the new player bonus are set at 30 times the deposit plus bonus amount. This is a little higher than average, but it’s not unheard of. To use an example, a deposit of $100 would get you a $100 bonus. In total, you would need to place a total sum of wagers totaling $6,000 before cashing out the bonus or anything won with the bonus money.

Pros:

  • 300+ games on offer
  • High payout rate
  • Fast withdrawals
  • Large progressive jackpot games
  • Instant play option for Mac, Linux and others

Cons:

  • Dated software
  • No Mac-friendly download option
  • Small welcome bonus (maxes at $100)

Intertops Poker

Intertops Poker is one of the safest and most reliable poker rooms for USA players right now. Action is pretty sparse with limited game selection at anything but the low stakes games, but it’s definitely a great place to play with soft tables and extremely fast cashouts. If you live in the USA, I cannot recommend Intertops poker enough. It’s a toss-up between Intertops and Bovada as far the single best site for Americans today.

If you live elsewhere in the world, there are much bigger sites out there. The poker site will get you by if you’re just a casual player who might play a few hands between sports bets, but I would recommend bigger poker sites first just for pure traffic levels. Intertops.eu poker still has a bit of growing to do before it can give high volume players enough action to keep them happy.

With that said, let’s move on. Intertops is a member of the Revolution Poker Network, which is a smaller network that is home to several other poker sites. One room on the Revolution Network (Lock Poker) closed in 2015 and left hundreds of players unpaid. It was a big scandal at the time and gave the network a major black eye.

The good news is that Intertops has always used its own payment processor and keeps its finances separate from the rest of the network. Whatever Lock Poker did had nothing to do with Intertops. Even today, Intertops gets checks out to USA players within 5-7 business days. That’s practically the speed of light in today’s online poker market.

Cash Games

Cash games at Intertops are offered for Texas Holdem, Omaha and Omaha Hi-Lo, with the vast majority of the action taking place at the no-limit Texas Holdem tables. No limit stakes start out at $0.02/$0.04 ($4 buyin) and go up to $10/$20 ($2,000 buyin). Most of the traffic congregates at the $0.02/$0.04 to $0.25/$0.50 range, but you can find a few $0.50/$1 and $1/$2 games. Action starts to really dry up above $2/$4 but those games do run occasionally.

Fixed limit games start at $0.02/$0.04 and go up to $50/$100. The fixed limit games don’t get much action above the micro stakes, and even there it is slim pickings. For the most part, you’ll want to stick with no limit Texas Holdem while you’re at Intertops.

The skill level at Intertops can best be described as “fishy.” One of the advantages of having such light traffic is that Intertops flies under the radar of most serious grinders. The majority of the players here are casuals who are sports bettors first and poker players second.

Tournaments

Poker tournaments at Intertops are generally very small and very fishy. They don’t have a major weekly guarantee like you see at some other sites, but the players here are beyond terrible. If you don’t mind playing against smaller fields for smaller prize pools, Intertops will do just the trick. It’s only a matter of time before you cash in one and take home the top prize.

If you need to see bigger prize pools, you may want to look elsewhere. Intertops is not a big tournament site. What they offer is a safe place to play a little poker and actually get paid. What they don’t offer are $100K guarantees and lots of satellites to major events.

Sit-n-go tournaments are pretty much the same story. Buyins range from $0.09 and go as high as $342 but the majority of the action takes places at the lower levels. There is a unique variety of SNG types that range from standard 9-man tournaments to 4-person, heads-up and 3-person tournaments along with a few step SNGs that will let you start for as little as $0.09 and work your way up through the levels for a $999 prize.

Software

The poker software at Intertops is actually pretty solid. I wouldn’t call it the best thing since sliced bread, but it’s fast to load, displays information properly and has all the options you need to configure the tables to your liking. You can download the software to your PC or play online through the instant play option at the Intertops website.

Multi-tabling is restricted through the no-download option, but the full PC download allows players to join up to six tables at a time. The games lobby is organized in a straightforward manner that allows you to filter by poker variation, game type, stakes and number of players. When you find a table you like, just double-click to open the table in a new window.

Pros:

  • Fast withdrawals to players in the US and everywhere else
  • Fishy poker games
  • Perfect reputation going back 30+ years
  • Full download for PC users and instant play option for everyone else

Cons:

  • Low traffic at everything above the small stakes games
  • Instant play software is a bit clunky
  • No large guaranteed prize pool tournaments

Customer Support

Intertops has a reputation for quick customer support and accessible people who are willing to answer questions truthfully. You would think this should be standard in online betting, but it’s amazing how many sites treat their players like nuisances and refuse to answer even simple questions.

Site reps are known to frequent large poker and sports discussion forums and interact with customers in public. If you hang around discussion forums frequently, you may notice how some sites simply refuse to interact with the public. Intertops takes the opposite approach by interacting with players, giving straight-shooting answers and (most importantly) telling the truth.

You can reach customer support directly 24 hours a day by phone, e-mail, live chat and even Skype. There are no less than 8 publicly listed phone numbers on the website with local numbers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and North America.

Real Money Deposits and Withdrawals

Intertops accepts a dozen deposit methods and charges nothing to complete deposits no matter how big or small. However, they do have a reputation for excessive withdrawal fees to US players. Here’s a look at the various deposit/withdrawal methods, limits and fees.

I have to give credit to Intertops for publicly listing its payout fees and withdrawal time frames. Payment processing is a hassle in the United States and there are many sites out there that take a month or more to pay. Intertops is open about how long it takes and gives accurate time frames unlike many of its US-focused competitors.
