Ladbrokes
Ladbrokes is a UK bookmaker offering online sports betting, horse racing, casino and bingo, operated by Ladbrokes Betting & Gaming Limited under the Entain group.
Who Runs Ladbrokes
Ladbrokes is the largest high-street bookmaker in Great Britain by licensed premises. The company behind the shops, Ladbrokes Betting & Gaming Limited, is registered at Companies House under number 00775667, active and incorporated on 1 October 1963 — as Ladbroke Racing Limited, a name it kept until 1999. It shares its registered office at One Stratford Place in London with Entain Holdings (UK) Limited, which was called GVC Holdings (UK) Limited until April 2021. Online betting is licensed to a different company again, LC International Limited, and the app on the UK App Store is published by a fourth, Entain Operations Limited.
Ladbrokes and Coral Are the Same Licensed Operator
Ladbrokes appears on the Gambling Commission register twice, and Coral appears on both of the same accounts. Account 54743, held by LC International Limited, is the online licence: ladbrokes.com is an active domain on it, and so are fourteen active trading names on it, including coral, bwin, Sporting Bet and the Gala brands. Account 1611, held by Ladbrokes Betting & Gaming Limited, is the shops: its betting licences are non-remote, running since 2009, and it carries exactly two active trading names, ladbrokes and coral. So the two brands are not alternatives to each other — a reader who has ruled out one has ruled out the same licensed operator twice.
The Shop Estate
The premises register lists 2,679 betting shops licensed to Ladbrokes Betting & Gaming Limited, and no betting shop at all in the name of Coral Racing Limited — so the shops trading under both brands are on this one licence. Two other estates pass a thousand premises: 1,415 licensed to Done Brothers (Cash Betting) Limited, which publishes the Betfred app, and 1,250 to William Hill Organization Limited.
What You Can Bet On
Fixed odds on real and virtual events, and pool betting, which is what a stake needs to join a tote pool at the track rather than take a price. Ladbrokes advertises "best odds guaranteed" on every UK and Irish horse race, which pays the starting price when that is longer than the price taken — its own App Store listing states it without qualification.

Our Take
Ladbrokes runs a conventional online book — fixed odds, tote pools, and the guarantee on UK and Irish racing its listing advertises — on a current licence, with 2,679 shops behind it. The licence structure is the thing to carry away: the online account carries fourteen active trading names including coral, so this is not an independent operator and Coral is not an alternative to it. Readers outside Great Britain should confirm eligibility in the terms before registering.
